The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in Ho Chi Minh city (HCDC) said, the suspected case is a man, 28, from Nam Sach district of Hai Duong Province.
On Jan 18, he attended a wedding party in Hai Duong, where he may have had close contact with case number 1612. He became ill on Jan 26.
Thursday morning (Jan 28), he came to Ho Chi Minh city from Hanoi on flight VN213 (15:00) and stayed at the guesthouse in District 11. In the same day, he proactively reported to HCDC and sent to the District 11 Hospital on January 29 before being transferred to Cu Chi field hospital for treatment, local news outlet Zing reported.
Before Jan 28, life in Vietnam had been returning to normal, with many people no longer wearing face masks and domestic tourism booming, but the country is again on high alert after many new cases recorded.
Thursday saw 100 community cases recorded nationwide, a record high tally which broke Vietnam’s streak of nearly two months without a community transmission. The new outbreaks have now been recorded in Hai Duong, Quang Ninh, Hai Phong, Bac Ninh and Hanoi,
Within Friday (Jan 29), the country reported 63 COVID-19 infections, including 62 domestically-transmitted cases, according to the Ministry of Health.
One imported case was quarantined upon arrival by plane from Japan on Wednesday. He tested positive for the novel coronavirus on Thursday.
The local cases were detected from 6:00 pm on Thursday to 6:00 pm on Friday, the health ministry elaborated.
Of the 62 domestic infections, one was recorded in Hai Phong City, two in Bac Ninh Province, two in Hanoi, five in Quang Ninh Province, and 52 in Hai Duong Province. All of the places are located in northern Vietnam.
Vietnam has confirmed 1,705 coronavirus patients since the pathogen first emerged in the country on January 23 last year, according to the ministry’s data.
Thirty-five patients have died, most suffering comorbid health conditions, according to Tuoi Tre Newspaper.
