Mobifone to trial 5G services in Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Hai Phong and Da Nang, becoming the second mobile operator in Vietnam to conduct trials of the next-generation of mobile communications, similar to what AT&T, Xfinity, and Verizon – three names of the biggest phone service providers in the US – are doing.
During the validity of the trial license, which expires on April 22, 2020, Mobifone will provide enhanced mobile broadband free of charge to its customers so that they can experience high and ultra-high definition videos, in addition to online gaming at high speeds. NDO, a local newspaper reported.
The carrier is gearing up along with its partners to make plans for the test.
According to NDO, Mobifone stated that the trials will be carried out with quipment from various producers in order to evaluate the quality of service and deal with any arising problems before the mass roll-out.
In addition to making the necessary preparations for 5G testing, Mobifone has also been working hard to improve the quality and coverage of its 4G services.
The company installed another 4,500 4G cellular towers in the first quarter of 2019, and is expected to raise the total number of its 4G towers to 30,000 by the end of the year.
