A hotel owner in An Giang was arrested Tuesday for helping 25 Chinese illegally enter Cambodia.
Nguyen Thi Kim Huy, 54, along with her accomplices, Nguyen Van Ut, 34, and Nguyen Nhu Nho, 61, were arrested by police of the Mekong Delta province, which borders Cambodia, for allegedly “brokering illegal exit in Vietnam.”
In March, Ut asked Nho to recommend a hotel for a group of Chinese before helping them enter Cambodia. Nho then requested help from Huy, who owns a hotel.
On April 14, an unidentified person in Cambodia called Ut and said eight Chinese had traveled to An Giang. Ut then took them to Huy’s hotel. Two days later, Ut called a cab for the Chinese group to leave the hotel, but was busted by police.
The Chinese group has been placed in quarantine for Covid-19 prevention. They confessed to police they had illegally entered Vietnam through the northern border.
Huy and Ut confessed they, with Nho, have helped 25 Chinese cross over to Cambodia illegally on three separate occasions.
