Police in the northern Vietnamese province of Vinh Phuc are verifying a video in which a local martial art instructor is seen repeatedly kicking and punching his students on their backs while they were stretching in his class.
The over-two-minute-long video surfaced on social media on Monday and quickly went viral.
The incident is believed to have taken place during a martial art class of a school in Vinh Yen, the capital city of Vinh Phuc.
In the footage, about 20 young students were asked to sit on the floor of a classroom and stretch their legs.
A man in a dark-color outfit, believed to be the teacher, walked around the classroom, sat on the back of the students, and repeatedly punched and kicked them on their backs.
The students appeared to be obedient and did not stand up against the instructor.
In the second half of the clip, a girl received a kick to her face, while another seemed to be threatened by the teacher as she said something to him.
“What kind of martial art is this?” the voice of the man who filmed the incident could be heard in the video.
A police representative in Vinh Yen City confirmed on the same day that officers have launched an investigation into the case.
The students were preparing for a local sports competition, he continued, adding that competent authorities will work with the students and teacher for further verification.
