A Vietnamese woman has been slapped with a fine worth VND8.5 million (US$365) for stealing a life jacket from a flight and hid it in her cabin luggage.
The Southern Airports Authority confirmed on Saturday it had imposed the penalty upon D.T.D., a 59-year-old resident from Ba Dinh District, Hanoi.
The case was discovered when D. underwent a security scan before her flight from Lien Khuong International Airport in the Central Highlands city of Da Lat to Hanoi on the morning of October 7.
Aviation security staff noticed a life jacket No. PART N: P01074-201W in the passenger’s suitcase.
During a working session with the Southern Airports Authority, D. admitted she had stolen the life jacket under her seat on the airplane that day.
She then hid it in her baggage and managed to leave the airport without being caught.
A life jacket is a very important part in aviation safety, an official stated, adding that stealing it can result in serious dangers.
